Somethin' Else
The other day, we watched an eopisode of Police Woman, starring Angie Dickinson. What a 70's classic! How I love those 70's cop shows. Of course, what was once incredibly tense, suspenseful, and thrilling, now becomes a laugh fest. It's not only the 70's fashion, language, and scenery. It's also how unbelievable some of the situations and storylines were. A friend of mine put together a mashup of some of the best clips from the episode the other day that featured Patty Duke.
This "mashup" of Liam Sullivan's famous "Shoes" is a lot of fun. It's important to see the original first if you haven't already - just scroll down a bit and you'll see it. As you can tell, I haven't been updating this blog very often. But this just had to be shared. Enjoy.
One of the reasons I love New York is Clearview Chelsea's Classic Cinema Night, which takes place every Thursday. It's one of the few places where a 1970 B Film starring Joan Crawford could earn more profits than all of the other shows in the cineplex combined. The theater was full and Hedda Lettuce's commentary throughout the film was priceless. And she gave away some great prizes. Next week they're showing Mildred Pierce, Joan Crawford at her finest. Trog is also one of her finest works as well but for a completely different reason - Laugh-Out-Loud hilarity at the absurdity that such a film was ever made and that this bonafide Hollywood star actually played the lead role as one of the world's top scientists.
Three younger scientists discover the "missing link" Trog in a cave in England. When one of them is killed by the half man / half beast, Trog is captured and then studied by Joan and her team. The university town wants him dead. Joan believes there is much to be learned from Trog, as she teaches him how to play with dolls. The trailer sells this film as horror, but it is clearly one of the best comedies ever made. And even better when seen with a group of people.
Thanks to Douglas, these wacky viral videos keep coming my way. He's doing my research of camped-up wacky/tacky entertainment that I can feature on here. Will Liam Kyle Sullivan be America's answer to Little Britain? He plays multiple male and female characters, the primary one being Kelly - a "betch" - who has somehow managed to stack up 13 million views of her video for Shoes. I believe it can also be purchased on itunes as a single. Watch for the celebrity comedienne - that Liam is on tour with - in this video. My favorite part is when Kelly is talking on her cell phone moving her tongue. Note that Liam plays all the characters in the intro, except for the mother I believe.
The latest edition to camp video discoveries. Teen Witch was a musical movie filmed in 1989. Look how "funky" it is and that acting... They really knew how to do it back then. This is truly a video that fits perfectly into the Somethin' Else category.
A friend of mine sent me this video that's been working its way around
the web lately. It's Jan Terri, a limo driver from Chicago who fancied
herself a pop singer. She saved up the money and made these videos with
a cheap VHS camera and she apparently became quite well known in
Chicagoland as someone who deserved more fame than she ever had...:)
Someone sent her videos to Marilyn Manson who eventually promoted her
on one of his tours. Thanks in part to him and You Tube, Jan Terri
lives on. You can check out some of her other videos like Get Down
Goblin. But first, my favorite: Losing You.
