Two Great New Music Sites I've Discovered - Foxy Tunes & Last FM
Since the start of my new job, I've been even more obsessed with the Internet than ever before. I now have my job as the excuse for spending hours upon end online because I can atribute it to my career. Well, this is definitely true to a certain extent. Learning about social networking sites and the latest trends and technology is something I need to keep up on but viral videos like the one from "What the hull?" Kelly, below, won't be a big influencer - I hope!
So, about these two new music sites I've discovered... I have to give credit to www.Mashable.com , a blog and social networking site about the latest social networking sites, for turning me on to these.
Firstly, there's www.foxytunes.com and its partner www.foxytunes.com/planet. I'm more intriqued with the planet part than I am the main portal, which allows you to customize a browser-supported media player and more I'm sure. FoxyTunes Planet is great. You can type in any artist you're really into and it will aggregate a bunch of content about that artist all on one page - everything from You Tube videos to Yahoo Lyrics, Amazon reviews, Flickr photos, and any additional widget you'd like to add to that page. It's a great way of learning more about a particular artist, like Cut Copy, a recent discovery of mine. http://www.foxytunes.com/artist/cut_copy
Secondly, LastFM with its cool url www.last.fm, tags itself as the social music revolution. Essentially, with a simple download, it puts a widget on your computer that tracks all the music you listen to on iTunes or your iPod - artist, song, and album - and begins to build a profile of you from a music perspective. It then matches you with other people who have similar tastes and who can turn you on to new artists. They claim that they do not collect information about whether or not you're listening to an original cd or an mp3. I assume this is becuase people are worried about being tracked down for stealing music. I haven't actually downloaded the "scrobbler" as they call it but I do find the idea pretty good. You can learn a lot about new artists and watch videos here too. Here's more information on their about us page: www.last.fm/about Enjoy!

thanks for the tips! Do you use Pandora? I just started. It lets you build your own radio station based on your favorite stuff.
