Music

I read about this in Word, one of my favorite music magazines from Britain. The guys who started Sleeveface.com took a handful of LP covers and put those covers in a photographable context to create art, a conversation piece, homage to a by-gone era. I checked the site out and really think it's a lot of fun. Here's one of my favorites:

This "mashup" of Liam Sullivan's famous "Shoes" is a lot of fun. It's important to see the original first if you haven't already - just scroll down a bit and you'll see it. As you can tell, I haven't been updating this blog very often. But this just had to be shared. Enjoy.

Since the start of my new job, I've been even more obsessed with the Internet than ever before. I now have my job as the excuse for spending hours upon end online because I can atribute it to my career. Well, this is definitely true to a certain extent. Learning about social networking sites and the latest trends and technology is something I need to keep up on but viral videos like the one from "What the hull?" Kelly, below, won't be a big influencer - I hope!

So, about these two new music sites I've discovered... I have to give credit to www.Mashable.com , a blog and social networking site about the latest social networking sites, for turning me on to these.

Firstly, there's www.foxytunes.com and its partner www.foxytunes.com/planet. I'm more intriqued with the planet part than I am the main portal, which allows you to customize a browser-supported media player and more I'm sure. FoxyTunes Planet is great. You can type in any artist you're really into and it will aggregate a bunch of content about that artist all on one page - everything from You Tube videos to Yahoo Lyrics, Amazon reviews, Flickr photos, and any additional widget you'd like to add to that page. It's a great way of learning more about a particular artist, like Cut Copy, a recent discovery of mine. http://www.foxytunes.com/artist/cut_copy

I had been thinking about how great the fact that my ipod Photo - a product that turned into a standard ipod within a few months of it coming out in 2005 - had lasted as long as it had. I had it replaced once under the Apple Care Protection Plan but it essentially had treated me very well. I had no intentions of replacing it whatsoever, despite how attracted I was to the iPod Touch. In fact, I had just bought a new set of Shur headphones to go with it. And then it happened. I left it in the gym in the tray of the elliptical machine. I went back the following morning and it had not been turned into lost and found, which is apparently what usually happens at my gym. I guess old iPods are not so coveted anymore.

So, after a few days of looking at home for it, I decided to start making my decision about my next iPod purchase. I really wanted the iPhone, depsite the ATT partnership. However, I was not willing to pay the few to break my Verizon contract, which doesn't end until September of 2009. So, I decided to get the iPod touch.

Thanks to Douglas, these wacky viral videos keep coming my way. He's doing my research of camped-up wacky/tacky entertainment that I can feature on here. Will Liam Kyle Sullivan be America's answer to Little Britain? He plays multiple male and female characters, the primary one being Kelly - a "betch" - who has somehow managed to stack up 13 million views of her video for Shoes. I believe it can also be purchased on itunes as a single. Watch for the celebrity comedienne - that Liam is on tour with - in this video. My favorite part is when Kelly is talking on her cell phone moving her tongue. Note that Liam plays all the characters in the intro, except for the mother I believe.

I'm sitting here on the sofa typing while I still have boxes full of cd's behind the television that need to be put into sleeves and then binders. I have got to get this project done so that I can start taking in some new music. My neice Tara just asked me if I had any recommendations of new artists and sadly, I don't. You'd imagine that this blog would be filled with countless reviews and links to my favorite new bands, top ten lists, etc. What's happening to me? Has my raison d'etre shifted from music to that of an Internet junkie? Is Electroclash really that last new music genre I've discovered? How 2004! Is there any hope to my again living up to my reputation of a Musickista? If any of you out there have any suggestions that can bring me back... back to black... let me know.
